Surprises! We’ve been to a lot of weddings that had surprises planned into the day — sometimes couples like to surprise their guests with something fun, exciting or sweet. Other times the bride or groom will have a surprise for their loved one, such as a musical performance, a sentimental gift (a dining set purchased in secret from the coffee shop where they had their first date), or a surprise guest appearance (Santa Claus anyone!?) However, we’ve never been to a wedding where the ENTIRE DAY was a complete surprise to both the bride and the groom, until we met Lauren & Caleb.
2020’s wedding season has been challenging, both for vendors and for couples. It’s been interesting to see how different people have adapted to the circumstances. Like so many couples this year, Lauren and Caleb had to make the difficult decision to discard their wedding plans and start from scratch. Faced with having to re-plan from the ground up, they instead relinquished full control of their wedding into the incredibly skilled hands of Brynn and the team at First Look Events, who put together one of the most unique and spectacular weddings we’ve ever had the opportunity to be a part of at Boulder Flower Farm. Every detail of the day was meticulously planned, from the massive floral ceremony backdrop created by Little Shop of Floral, to the intricate table setting and seven-course plated dinner by Footers Catering complete with adorable, decorative little notes that hinted at what the next course would be. What made it even more special was that the entire magical day — from start to finish — was a complete surprise to the couple. They had no idea what the schedule was, what the decorations would look like — nothing! It was so fresh and exciting to go along beside them and capture their joy and excitement as the day was slowly revealed to them moment by moment.
In addition to video coverage of the day, we also live streamed Lauren & Caleb’s wedding ceremony. Due to the circumstances, only about a dozen or so guests were in attendance in person at their wedding, but we were able to bring the ceremony live to over 80 viewers watching from 40 different places, including the groom’s brother who tuned in at 3:00 am in Saudi Arabia. We also worked with their families in the weeks leading up to the wedding, and edited a surprise video montage of pre-recorded toasts and well wishes from their family and friends who were unable to attend in person. In a year that’s been hard in so many ways, this was really a silver lining for us to be able to help provide services that share love, and bring people closer together when they can’t be together in person.
Lauren and Caleb, you were such a joy to work with. We really are so unimaginably grateful to have been a part of your wedding day and we wish you all the best in years to come!
In addition to the vendors we called out above, we’d also like to thank Lizzie and Marco Wedding Photographers, Colorado Party Rentals, Elite DJ, Faces by Liz, Handsome Love Calligraphy, and Beauty on Location Studio. Thanks for being such a great team of vendors to work with. You all helped to make this day a beautiful and magical as it was!
